Andreas Friberg Lundgren is an Art Director and Cofounder of the design studio Lundgren+Lindqvist, as well as Publisher and Co-founder of LL’Editions. At the studio, the team takes on a broad spectrum of projects – from comprehensive visual identity systems and book designs, to the design and development of websites and e-commerce platforms. For Andreas, paper is a tactile experience and a creative tool – more meaningful than ever in today’s screen-dominated world. Read more about his work – and why Munken is often the studio’s natural starting point when embarking on a new book project.

Can you tell me about the projects and your work?
My work is divided between leading the design practice at Lundgren+Lindqvist and serving as the publisher and editor of LL’Editions. Sometimes these roles overlap; other times, they remain separate.

At the studio, we take on a wide range of projects – from comprehensive visual identity programs to the design and development of websites and e-commerce platforms. Through our publishing imprint, we are able to engage more extensively with book projects than we might otherwise be able to. Altogether, this creates a healthy, varied mix of work that keeps us inspired and constantly learning.

Whenever time permits, I also pursue independent, art-related projects – producing artists’ books and multiples in collaboration with publishers such as Farozonen Förlag, einBuch.haus (DE), object|multiple (UK), and LL’Editions.

What inspires you?
Inspiration can come from almost anywhere. My colleagues at the studio often joke about my tendency to collect debris and ephemeral fragments – from projects, flea markets, or even the street. To me, beauty can often be found in what has been discarded or deemed worthless.

Of course, I also visit exhibitions regularly and read extensively. I just returned from Paris, where I visited a legendary artist in her studio – encounters like that are energizing and fuel my creative work for a long time.

What does paper mean to you?
Paper, for me, is first and foremost about tactile sensations – the feel of it beneath my fingertips, the familiar smell when opening a book. It offers a world of creative possibilities, and exploring them feels more rewarding than ever in our increasingly
screen-based world.

Lately, I’ve also come to appreciate paper’s imperfections – such as foxing and fading – and I try to turn imperfections and shortcomings into qualities whenever the project calls for it.

What are you currently working on?
We just finished a book for the automotive brand Polestar, likely the most complex book project we have undertaken to date.

In parallel, we are working on a small number of other books – some to be published under our own imprint, LL’Editions, and others for external publishers. We are also designing a visual identity and website for a flagship project led by one of Sweden’s most eminent architects, commissioned by a major property developer.

Despite being a small studio, we always have several projects running simultaneously.

Why did you choose Munken Paper?
For uncoated and uncoloured paper, Munken is generally our point of departure whenever starting a new book project. Having used paper from Munken for many years now–for a wide scope of different projects–we have become very familiar with their specific characteristics, allowing us to use whatever stock we choose in the best way possible.

Another important reason is proximity: our studio is based in Sweden, just about an hour from the Munken mill in Munkedal. This means shorter transport distances, smaller environmental impact, and faster delivery times.
